"Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"

Customers at the real job bombard me daily with questions like "you ready for Christmas?" "you done shopping yet?" and my answer is always NOPE. I am not a shopper any other time of the year there's no way on God's green earth you can get me out on this Black Friday thing. I still cant get my head around the notion that people stand out in the cold in the wee hours of the morning when they should be home sleeping only to be kicked pushed trampled and cursed while they go full speed ahead to get their "dreaded Christmas shopping" done. And people actually say this! The dreaded Christmas shopping. Where's the Joy? Shouldn't you shop for a gift with joy in your heart and excitement of giving? I once got bogged down and caught up in the madness. NEVER again. And I almost thank the Lord for this recession because I cannot afford to go out and spend so much money this year on ALL my loved ones. I almost have a "get out of the hustle and bustle free" card. So this year, except for my little guys, I am making all handmade gifts for everyone. But I have found it to be a blessing. A blessing that is keeping my heart...and Joy ..and love for the season in the right place. I have more time with my family, a bit less stress, and I can focus more on the story behind Christmas with a bright star, wisemen and shepherds and a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes laying in a manger. It's so fun with the toddler this year teaching him all things about the joys and magic of Christmas. Last night we watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Here are a few lines that hit home.....

Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!" Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store."Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"

So true. I like this Dr. Seuss.

  1. Well said. Great post :) I love the Grinch too (movie and the book)! This year I bought most of my giving gifts from Etsy as well as making a bunch - and it was so much more fun than driving around for an hours, looking for parking spaces and standing in lines for hours!

  2. Thank you for this wonderful post. I really enjoyed it and share many of your feelings. I avoid crowds and the crunch at all cost and prefer handmade gifts. To me they are so much more meaningful.

  3. Tbis is why Etsy is so wonderful. You can really feel the love that went into every handmade item. And this year I have I have seen much of the Etsy community trading handmade items for gifts. I love it!

  8. Thanks for the comment on my late father. And thanks for bringing me back here. The way my blog unfolds is this: I have a number of readers I do follow. And as soon as I find something that inspires me on their blog, I update with reference to whomsoever may have inspired me. Usually, it is in things like images, post titles that I find the inspiration to write more. The image or post title could trigger a thought in me relating to an event.

And so, when I stumbled upon your beautiful blog, it struck me especially the above photo. It did the trick and I am almost ready to post my next chapter. Which means credits will go to you.

I would like to follow your blog and I think it would be a great pleasure if you did same. Asides that, it will make it easier to keep up with your updates. Dont know if you would be interested in following mine but here I go. The great blind leap of faith. I am taking the first step. At least, this way, when I make mention of your blog in my post, your profile image will be there too.

    Have a pleasant sunday
